Support Work
Support Work at Beanies is about walking alongside people in their everyday lives, helping them build confidence, skills, and independence in ways that feel safe, respectful, and genuinely human.
Our support doesn’t feel clinical or transactional. It fits into real life.
Sometimes it looks like hanging out. Sometimes it looks like quiet guidance.
But underneath it all, it’s purposeful, goal-oriented support shaped around the individual.
At Beanies, Support Work sits under one umbrella, with two key focus areas:
Community Access Support
Out in the world
Community Access support focuses on helping participants feel confident, capable, and included beyond the home.
This support happens through everyday experiences such as:
-
Going to the shops
-
Visiting cafes, parks, or community spaces
-
Attending activities, appointments, or social outings
-
Practising transport, money handling, or communication in real settings
Support might begin with a worker guiding closely - helping with choices, planning, or communication - and over time shift to being more in the background.
The goal is participation that feels natural, not forced or overwhelming.
It often looks like:
“I’m here with you, not doing it for you.”
Daily Living Support
At home and within routines
Daily Living support focuses on the everyday tasks and routines that keep life running smoothly at home.
This may include support with:
-
Morning or after-school routines
-
Cooking and meal preparation
-
Household tasks
-
Personal organisation and planning
-
Building consistency and confidence with daily habits
Our approach is calm, respectful, and low-key.
We don’t take over — we support with the person.
As confidence grows, support adjusts:
-
Stepping in when needed
-
Stepping back whenever possible
It feels less like “being supported” and more like having someone quietly there when needed.

How Support Grows Over Time
At Beanies, we are comfortable supporting participants as much as they need us — and equally comfortable working toward the day they may not need us at all.
For example a participant may start with full support to go to the shops — planning the trip, finding items, paying at the checkout. Over time, that might shift to:
-
The participant choosing items independently
-
Paying on their own
-
The support worker standing nearby “just in case”
And eventually, that same participant might shop independently without support.
That’s not a loss for us — it’s a win.
Independence is something we actively celebrate.
We Value Human Connection
We believe real progress happens through real relationships.
While we remain professional at all times, genuine human connection is central to how we work.
Support at Beanies feels warm, natural, and relational — not transactional.
Participants are not just clients; they are people we genuinely care about and connect with.

We Help Create a Village
We don’t work in isolation.
We actively build a support network around each participant — connecting with families, therapists, schools, and other professionals where appropriate.
Our aim is to help participants feel supported not just by one person, but by a village.
We Are Goal-Oriented (Without Being Rigid)
Every support relationship has purpose.
Goals might be big or small, fast-moving or slow-burn — and they change over time.
We continually:
-
Reflect
-
Adjust
-
Build on progress
Support is broad, but always personalised.
We Work Closely With Therapists
Many of our team members are actively connected with therapists such as Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists.
This means:
-
Support aligns with therapeutic goals
-
Skills are reinforced in real-life settings
-
Communication is consistent across the support team
We understand industry expectations and work within them — while always keeping the person at the centre.
A Space Between Home and Independence
Beanies offers access to a dedicated halfway independent living space in Huonville.
This gives participants the opportunity to:
-
Get out of the home environment
-
Practise independent living skills
-
Build confidence in a supported, low-pressure setting
It’s a stepping stone — not a jump — toward independence.
Safety Always Comes First
We support participants out in the community, which means safety matters.
-
We have work vehicles
-
All vehicles used for support undergo safety checks
-
Our team understands risk, responsibility, and duty of care
Participants and families can feel confident knowing safety is built into everything we do.
A Strong, Connected Team
Behind every support worker is a wider team.
Our participants benefit from:
-
A larger, connected support team
-
Shared knowledge and oversight
-
Workers who understand the broader disability and support landscape
This allows support to be consistent, informed, and responsive.
Support That Puts the Person First
At Beanies, we never lose sight of why we’re here.
We support people to live fuller lives to feel capable, connected, and confident and to build independence in ways that feel achievable and empowering.
Sometimes that means being closely involved.
Sometimes it means stepping back.
And sometimes it means celebrating the moment we’re no longer needed.
That’s Support Work at Beanies.
